The Contributed Cataloging Unit consists of four staff members. The Unit is responsible for cataloging materials in all formats needing original or difficult shared cataloging from most of the Libraries’ on-campus collections. These include collections held by the Special and Area Studies Department’s Latin American and Caribbean Collection, the Map & Imagery Library, the P.K. Yonge Library of Florida History, the Isser and Rae Price Library of Judaica, and the Baldwin Library of Historical Children’s Literature, as well as materials held by the Architecture and Fine Arts Library, Marston Science Library, Education Library, Health Science Center Library, and Library West. The unit also aids in the creation of metadata for items destined for the University of Florida Digital Collections (UFDC) and participates in special projects both on and off campus as needed. In addition to provision of access to these materials in the library catalog, the Unit contributes new and upgraded bibliographic and authority records to the OCLC (WorldCat) database. Many of the members have special cataloging and liaison assignments with various areas of the Libraries, including the libraries at UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Extension Centers at Belle Glade, Homestead, and Lake Alfred.

Library Associate 1, Original Cataloger
Ilana Abend-David, MA
Ilana is responsible for all levels and most formats of monographic cataloging, with a focus on materials held by the Special & Area Studies Collections Department. Ilana handles much of the Judaica-related materials for the department. She earned a M.A. in Art History from State University of New York at Binghamton. Before working at the library she worked as the Director of the Electronic Content Department at Probook LTD in Israel. She currently serves on the Library Green Team. Room 410, Phone 352-273-2712

Greg Allen, MS
Greg contributes original and shared cataloging for books, maps, videos and other formats. He works independently with certain special collections materials and also catalogs for the Health Science Center Library using National Library of Medicine call numbers and MESH subject headings. He earned a Bachelor of Science in 1997 at the University of Florida in Dietetics with a Business minor. He earned an Master of Science from the University of Florida in 2010 in Food Microbiology/Safety with a minor in Animal Science. He is the department’s liaison to the Affiliated Libraries. He serves on the Affiliated Libraries Working Group and the Presidential LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee. He is the department's webmaster. He is currently the Contributed Cataloging Unit Head.

Library Associate 2, Original Cataloger
Beatriz Lugo
Beatriz creates original and shared cataloging records for special collections materials including Florida History materials, cartographic materials for the Map & Imagery Library, the Belknap Collection for the Performing Arts, Baldwin Library collection materials, Hanson Rare Book Collection monographs and serials, and Spanish language and literature materials. She is also responsible for processing withdrawals for a number of collections, batch loading of records, and record editing distribution.
Library Associate 2, Original Cataloger
Ayman Osman
Ayman is the newest member of our unit. He creates original and shared cataloging records for Special Collections. He specializes in original and complex copy cataloging of antique and modern cartographic materials, rare books, and other materials. He has strong language skills in Arabic, Turkish, and English. Before coming to work at our library, he worked as Team leader/Deputy section head at the Regional Office of the Library of Congress/Cairo, Egypt.
